Sermons Series: Great and Gracious God

After some fifty years of peace and stability, Isaiah witnessed the downfall and disappearance of the greater part of Israel under the oppression of the Assyrians. Later, Jerusalem and Judah faced disaster at the hands of the emerging Babylonian Empire. Isaiah proclaimed that the calamity that had fallen on God’s people was the consequence of their rebellion and sin. Yet Isaiah also assures the people that God hasn’t finished with them. They will find strength and security, but only as they trust the Holy One of Israel.
Whenever we face troubling times, we too must take our eyes off ourselves and our circumstances, and put our trust in the great and gracious God who made us and redeems us.
